Our Story
Like so many others around the world, we found ourselves in a unique situation a few years back in the midst of a global pandemic. With some additional (and unplanned) free time, we found ourselves having discussions about how to tackle some of the world’s greatest challenges. What better way to spend your free time? After extensive research and late-night discussions, reaching out to friends and contacts around the world who are leading industry experts and scientists in their respective fields, we came up with the idea for the Canterhill Carbon Project, a global network of little carbon dioxide capturing machines that can be integrated into communities around the world, linked through a blockchain, and capable of measurably and verifiably removing carbon dioxide from the air.
We learned about the many difficulties in quantifying the amount of carbon dioxide being removed from the air from specific activities, difficulties that are pervasive in the carbon credit marketplace. We learned about the many challenges facing corporations looking to increase their sustainability efforts and reduce their carbon footprints. We read about the attempts to mitigate the harm of runaway carbon dioxide emissions through science that is unproven and may cause harm to our environment.
We saw the many important and vital efforts being made to get to net zero through a variety of measures and industries, by people, governments and organizations around the world. And we saw the numbers being published each year of our collective global carbon dioxide emissions still continuing to increase.
And so, the Canterhill Carbon Project was born.
What makes us different? We are a proudly Canadian not-for-profit whose sole mission is to remove carbon dioxide from the air. Any and all money that is raised will be used to expand our network of bioreactors and to support activities that will expand our network in the most efficient and effective way possible. Working closely with local communities for each deployment, our project is fundamentally collaborative. We do not have shareholders, only stakeholders. And because the climate crisis will affect all of us, we are all stakeholders in this project.
By building a global network of photobioreactors, our solution is not industry-specific, but universal, systemic, safe, easily scalable and capable of addressing the climate crisis globally. Utilizing proven technology to build a global system of carbon dioxide removal, our innovation is the utilization and repurposing of several of today’s leading technologies to address the climate crisis with the aim of preserving our precious natural resources for generations to come.
